I will be the first to admit that I tend to breeze by 99% of the VSOP on the shelves without ever looking twice. I decided to pony up the $60 for a bottle of Frapin Grande Champagne VSOP and I am glad I did!!
It's got a bit more cinnamon on the nose than most other Cognacs I have tried. Other than that, it's got the nice fruity aromas and flavors that we all love so much (lots of almonds for you.) What is surprising is how round it is. Usually, the VSOP level tends to have a bit of an alcohol bite that I would rather live life not having to deal with. It's like the folks at Frapin decided to age all of the cognac in the bottle rather than age a little bit for a long time and then mix it with young spirit. The results speak for themselves. The taste matches the nose in flavor and in power, it is reasonably priced, and they've got 19 more bottles in stock.
Here you can talk about the experiences with the different brands and/or types of Cognac.
